The city of Columbus in Ohio is one of the top ten cities in the United States with a strong and diverse economy. Being a state capital, the government highly takes pride in the achievement of the city. The economy of the city is based on its education, healthcare, insurance and technology industries. Although the government is the largest employer in the city, other employers include those engaged in education such as the Columbus State Community College, Ohio State University and Franklin University; insurance companies like the State Auto Insurance, Motorists Insurance, Grange Insurance, Safe Auto Insurance and Nationwide Insurance; and other corporations such as the Commerce National Bank, Chemical Abstracts Service and CompuServe.
The population of Columbus, OH is over 700,000 in the city with 1.7 million concentrated in the metropolitan area where most of its residents are White and the rest are Black or African American, Native American, Pacific Islander, Asian and Hispanic or Latino. Considering the various races in the city, there are different religions practiced as well, including Christianity (Protestant and Catholic), Islam and Jewish. A good percentage of the residents are between the ages of 25 and 44 while only a few are above 65 years old. This is probably due to the fact that the city is not a fitting haven for retirees, but rather intended for the working class.
Columbus is home to a number of landmarks that awe spectators to no end because of its design, history and uniqueness. One of the most visited landmarks is the Ohio Statehouse that has been acknowledged as a supreme example of Greek revival in style, function and overall concept to suit contemporary needs. Other attractions include Wexner Center (contemporary art gallery and research laboratory at Ohio State University), Greater Columbus Convention Center, Rhodes State Office Tower (tallest building in Columbus), LeVeque Tower and One Nationwide Plaza.
There are several museums in Columbus that are visited by enthusiasts such as the Columbus Museum of Art (collection of early to modern American and European art), Franklin Conservatory (botanical garden), COSI (science museum) and Ohio Historical Society museum with the Ohio Village (replica of a village during the American Civil War).
Columbus is also home to renowned performing arts institutions such as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Contemporary American Theater Company (CATCO) and BalletMet. And all throughout summer, the Actor's Theater offers free Shakespearean performances in an open-air amphitheater in the German village.
